Meet Martin
Growing up in the heart of the Alps, Martin developed a deep appreciation for spending time in the mountains. Skiing, mountaineering, and paragliding became integral parts of his life, but above all, he cherished being immersed in nature. After initially pursuing a career in engineering, which led him to work on spacecraft assembly, he ultimately decided to follow his passion for snow and study atmospheric science. His goal is to work with and study avalanches, focusing on making information more accessible to both forecasters and the public.
Martin's research
Martin joined the SARP team to pursue his PhD in the fall of 2024. With his research, he aims to enhance the accessibility and relevance of snowpack simulations for operational avalanche forecasting. His initial work in snow science focused on refining an algorithm to generate a first objective guess of the prevailing avalanche problems based on snowpack simulations. Currently, he is exploring ways to make modeled data more accessible and better aligned with the needs of avalanche forecasters. Ultimately, his research seeks to help modernize operational avalanche forecasting and contribute to better forecastability.
